13th Avenue Streetscape

13th Avenue Streetscape

This was the first street improvement project tackled by the CCRA. 13th Avenue is one of the borders of the revitalization district, and this streetscape revitalization provides a good focal point for individuals entering the district. This is especially true for those entering Bradenton and the district to visit Tropicana and Bealls. The project included landscaping, repaving, brick crosswalks, sidewalks, and lighting. The design intention was to create a rhythm along the street by alternating groups of evergreen hollies with flowering crepe myrtles. Understory shrubs of juniper and downy jasmine reinforce the design and add interest for both pedestrians and vehicles. Antique pedestrian scale streetlights and new sidewalks contribute to a pedestrian friendly and safe street. The extensive landscape design consists of 61 Robin Hollys, 78 Crape Myrtles, 32 Little Gem Magnolias, 589 Parson’s Junipers, 815 Wax Jasmines, 849 Dwarf Indian Hawthorns, 12, 063 square feet of mulch, 17,442 and square feet of sod. This plan and design is a culmination of the thoughts, desire, and input of residents, city officials, corporate leaders, and contracted professionals.
